Quarter 1 of the 2020-2021 School Year COVID-19 has been a disruptive force to all our lives. For many, even cataclysmic. Yet, now more than ever, reminders of the goodness within this world and within us are vital. The Eclipse committe has adapted accordingly to showcase the beauty and soul of art and writing — because where there is beauty and there is soul, there is hope. - Phyllis Feng, Co-President We are in a constant state of awe from reviewing submissions sent in by students at Centerville High School.
We are very proud that amidst the pandemic, Eclipse Magazine has continued to showcase all forms of art and give a voice to artists of all backgrounds. - Hinna Parwez, Co-President

Creator - Florence Douglass This piece of art was made because I had extra paint and didn’t want it to go to waste. At first I wanted it to be a paint of nature with a green path, but then I saw it as a dress and painted a black faceless woman. I decided to call it ‘Beauty’ since black women sadly can’t live in safety and peace. The message of this piece is that black women are people too and every single person needs to know that and respect them.
Creator - Hex Hogan Blurring, the hazy lights hark down I can nearly see myself in the halo The image slightly obscured by sleek asphalt What shines back isn’t me Or is it? No matter how hard I try my eyes refuse to focus So instead I listen to the pounding Droning and drowning On the roof, and in my head Thoughts trickle between my ears like rain, abandoning doubt with each drop Who was she? Her stare was piercing- and dull I think I might’ve loved her once Or did I? Author's Note:
So, I wrote this poem initially for poetry club in February of my junior year. If you’ve ever been, you know at the end of each meeting we decide on a theme for next month- and of course one of February’s themes was love. I almost gave in and wrote a sappy love poem about my current relationship. But instead, a thought came to me while I sat in the passenger seat in the pouring rain. I could almost see my self in the reflection of the highway, but not completely. I knew what I needed to write about. Self love. Creator - Charles Reed Artist's Note:
The materials I used consists a red colerase pencil, Copics, and Micron pens. Creator - Tee Weathers Alcohol marker on the subjects
Watercolor and colored pencil for the backgrounds Creator - Hex Hogan Author's Note: This is one of my oldest poems that I’m still proud of. I wrote it the summer after freshman year, during my first real relationship. I hadn’t thought about it for years until a few weeks ago when my English teacher asked me to write a values essay. The value I settled on was love, titled “what is love?” and this poem is my entire second paragraph. Heartbeat: pulsing
Veins: flowing Head: rushing Face: blushing You Just may be My downfall Breath wispy as the words linger on my tongue I hide my face So you can't see What's building inside me
